Headquartered in Virginia Beach, VA, Sentara Health Plans is the health insurance division of Sentara Healthcare, offering health plans through its subsidiaries, Optima Health and Virginia Premier. Collectively, Optima Health and Virginia Premier provide health insurance coverage to over 875,000 members through a full suite of commercial products including consumer-driven, employee-owned and employer-sponsored plans, individual and family health plans, employee assistance plans and plans serving Medicare and Medicaid enrollees. With more than 55 years of collective experience, their combined networks feature more than 35,000 providers, including specialists, primary care physicians and hospitals.

Clinical Staff

Sentara Health Plans employs a wide array of clinical staff whose primary focus is on the health and wellness of our members. They assume roles such as; Integrated Care Manager, Registered Nurse, Care Coordinator, Quality Improvement Coordinator, Dietician, Social Worker, and more. Some of their main responsibilities are to work with members; helping them to navigate and manage chronic illnesses, and ensuring they receive education for overall health, wellness, and wellbeing. They also work with the physicians to ensure services meet medical criteria and guidelines.

Non-Clinical Staff

From Information Technology to Finance to Marketing & Sales, there are a wide array of non-clinical staff at Sentara Health Plans. Their primary focus is on providing technical and administrative support to clinical staff, as well as marketing our health plan to employer groups.
