Basic Pharmacy

This is a course all about becoming a Pharmacy Technician. You will learn how to handle prescriptions and explain the laws that affect pharmacies. You will also learn about your role as a Pharmacy Technician and the different ways medicines can be given. We'll teach you how to mix medicines and keep everything clean and germ-free. We'll also talk about the difference between brand-name and generic drugs. You'll also get to learn about SIG codes, a kind of short language used in prescriptions. Lastly, we'll show you how to handle billing and insurance claims for prescriptions. This course will give you everything you need to know to get started as a Pharmacy Technician.

Pharmacy Calculations

This is a course about the important math you need to know as a Certified Pharmacy Technician. You will learn how to use formulas and conversions for pharmacy calculations. Explain the rules of the metric system and the basic units of weight, volume, and length. Describe common equivalents in the metric system. Discuss the apothecary system. Explain the household system. Convert metric measures to their equivalents in the other systems.

Pharmacy Clinicals

This clinical experiential course provides students with hands on experience under the guidance of a Pharmacist at Community Pharmacy. Pre-Requisites: Basic Pharmacy and Pharmacy Calculations.

What You Will Learn

Basic knowledge needed to understand the function of a pharmacy technician, how to prepare, order and stock prescription medications, Patient and Dosage Forms and Routes of Administration, Community and Institutional Pharmacy Settings, Top 200 Drugs, IV Flow Rates, Compounding Drugs, Brand and Generic Prescription Drugs.

Must be 18 Years of Age or Older
Prospective students must be 18 years of age to register for the Pharmacy Technician Program
Reading Comprehension & Math Assessment
Applicants must take a reading comprehension and math assessment test prior to course enrollment. Passing score of 70% or higher required. This is done after registering in the orientation portal.
English Language Proficiency
Applicant must have demonstrated English language proficiency (including reading, writing and speaking)
